Water Birth

Waterbirth is a wonderful place to labor and deliver a baby. The warm water allows the woman to relax and gently push the baby out. Numerous studies have documented the safety of waterbirth and the benefits of water during labor and delivery. 90% of the women of WBWC and in my practice have chosen waterbirth as a means of providing pain relief, we often laugh and call waterbirth “A midwife’s epidural”. Additionally waterbirth benefits women by:

  • Speeding up labor
  • Reducing blood pressure
  • Giving mom a sense of control
  • Providing pain relief
  • Reducing the need for drugs and interventions
  • Provides a protected space in which mom feels secure
  • Eliminates perianal trauma and episiotomies
  • Reduces c-sections
  • Free from gravity pull, secretes normal hormones
  • Eliminates stress related hormones noradrenaline  and catecholamines which raises blood pressure and inhibits or slows down labor
